Ancient and Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture

Balance Yin and Yang to restore equilibrium

You can expect safe, effective, compassionate and confidential care from fully qualified master practitioner Lydia Edwards. Acupuncture works on the philosophy that the human body has energy channels that are most commonly known as meridians. Energy, known as qi (pronounced chi), should flow freely through these channels but if the qi becomes deficient or blocked, we can suffer from unpleasant symptoms and become unhealthy.

Traditional and Ancient Chinese Acupuncture is performed by inserting very fine, sterile, disposable needles into the body's acu-points which are located on the meridians. Acupuncture is NOT like having an injection, and is not painful! Acupuncture treatment is safe alongside conventional medical treatment.

Acupuncture can help with muscular skeletal (e.g. back) issues, emotional imbalance (e.g. stress, anxiety, depression), male health or gynaecological issues, weight loss, stopping smoking, chronic conditions (e.g. fibromyalgia), headaches, migraines, improving fertility, tinnitus and many other conditions.

What Happens During the initial Consultation?
The patient is asked to answer detailed questions about their health - this takes around 45 minutes. The tongue and pulse are also examined in order to make a diagnosis. This in turn determines how many needles will need to be inserted, and on which acu-points these insertions will take place. Lydia always take time to make sure the patient is comfortable with the treatment procedure and knows exactly where the pins will be inserted.
All patient information is always treated with the utmost confidentiality.

After this initial consultation and as part of the first session you will have your first acupuncture treatment. Usually a few fine sterile needles will be placed in the back, feet, hands or abdomen and are usually left in for around 20 minutes. We think of the body as one working system - give too many "instructions" to it and it will get confused - this is why we only use 2 - 9 needles at any one time usually. For muscular-skeletal issues more needles may be used.

Patient Feedback :

"Lydia has a very re-assuring and understanding manner particularly if you are anxious about needles as I am. She is a skilled and knowledgeable practitioner and I would highly recommend her."

"Lydia is an extremely knowledgeable, dedicated and intuitive practitioner." She is also a lovely person and I have always felt thoroughly safe and cared-for during my treatment sessions. I have been amazed and delighted with the positive changes in my health, despite suffering from a life-long health condition for which there is "no cure" - or so the medics say! Lydia always explains everything that she is doing, and the reason for it, as your treatment progresses. Acupuncture and Tui Na seem to be able to address an extremely wide range of physical and mental/emotional ailments. I am therefore delighted to recommend Lydia as an extremely professional and gifted Complementary Health Practitioner.
